Sri Lanka captain Samari Athapatu has signed a contract with Sydney Thunders for the next 3 seasons of the Australian Women’s Big Bash League.
Although he played for the Sydney Thunders in the previous series (2023-24), he was given the opportunity to represent an injured player.
However, Samari played well in all the rounds in that series and scored 552 runs with 5 fifties. He also took 9 wickets for Sydney Thunders.
Due to her outstanding performance, Samari bagged the Hero of the Tournament award.
However, in the 8-team tournament, Sydney Thunders finished 4th in the points table.
It is noteworthy that the upcoming Big Bash Women’s League will start on October 27 this year.
