Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said the May Day rally organised by the party yesterday was decisive as it will be the factor deciding the result of the upcoming Presidential Election of the country.
The other parties are slinging mud at the SLPP rally as they are in the hunt of the 6.9 million vote base, the SLPP obtained at the previous presidential election, he said and added that despite what is being shared on social media against the SLPP the real opinion of the public is still with the SLPP.
He said that the candidate who will win the upcoming presidential election is the one supported and backed up by the SLPP. “We are with the people. Therefore, we have no idea of moving forward without addressing their problems,” he stressed.
SLPP will form a progressive Parliament – PM
Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena addressing the SLPP May Day rally said that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna led alliance will form a progressive parliament representing the farming and labour forces empowered by a fresh economic and political programme.
He said the SLPP never underestimates the power of the Trade Union campaign and is against the voices raised criticizing the TU movement. “The TUs are a huge support to the country and the SLPP-led TUs have proved it from the past.”
He further said the young generation is the future of the country. A national programme to build their future will be taken today.
General Secretary of SLPP MP Sagara Kariyawaram said the SLPP is confident of winning all the upcoming elections despite the criticisms made to the party by other parties.
National Organizer of the SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa speaking on this occasion said the SLPP is the political party of the present generation and it is the only political party which has the ability to ensure a safer future for the children of this country.
The SLPP has been formed based on a set of basic principles and the party will form a fresh government adhering to those principles in the future, he said.
He pointed out that some political leaders criticize the mega-scale projects such as the Port City, Lotus Tower and Harbour implemented in the country by the government of former President Mahinda Rajapaska.
However, they have been making this criticism since the past without knowing the value and importance of such projects.
