SLvIND : A tour series of 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs is underway in Sri Lanka on July 27. In the first 3 T20 matches held so far in this series, the series was won by 3-0.
After that the 3-match ODI series between the two teams started yesterday. The first match which was held yesterday ended in a draw. It can be said that the Indian team has lost the match which should be easily won.
Two things happened in this match that ended yesterday, one was a record and the other was a controversial question for the fans. The achievement in that is what the captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma did.
Also, the controversial question is why a Super Over is not held after a match is ‘tied’ i.e. drawn? That is. Let’s see about both of these now.
Rohit Sharma feat:
Sri Lanka scored 230 runs in yesterday’s match losing 8 wickets in 50 overs. Indian team captain Rohit Sharma and Gill stepped in to take this set score. In which Rohit Sharma scored 58 runs off 47 balls.
He completed that half-century in just ten overs. In this list, India’s Virender Sehwag has scored 7 fifties within 10 overs. Next to him is Rohit Sharma who has done this 3 times.
This was followed by Rohit Sharma hitting 3 sixes in that match. With this, he has broken Eoin Morgan’s record of hitting 734 sixes in 134 innings as England captain. Former Sri Lanka captain Eoin Morgan has hit 233 sixes in 18 innings.
Also, he has reached 15,000 runs as an opener in international cricket. He now holds the record of being the 2nd fastest player to reach the stone in this ink. Before this, Sachin Tendulkar is on the first position after crossing 15,000 runs in 331 innings.
Next to him, Rohit Sharma has crossed this milestone and it is noteworthy that former Australian player David Warner has read this record at the 3rd place in the list with 361 inches.
Controversial question:
After yesterday’s match ended in a draw, they ended the match. But the Super Over did not happen. Fans were raising the question why Super Over was not held. This is because of ICC rules.
There is no rule that a Super Over can be played in any of the regular 50 over matches, even if they end in a draw. The ICC rules say that a super over should be played only if it is a knockout match.
Even if any T20 match ends in a draw, it is not a league round or a series like this, but it is also a rule of the ICC that a super over must be played.
Similarly, the rules regarding Super Over for each series can be decided by the host countries or those organizations.
But no such result has been concluded in this series between Sri Lanka and India teams and that is why the Super Over did not take place when yesterday’s match was drawn.
