Online scams are on the rise, especially phone scams. A survey conducted by Local Circle found that 66% of people said they receive at least 3 spam calls (suspected) every day.
In this case, Google uses Gemini Nano AI to detect spam calls in real-time to put an end to these scams and alerts them immediately. Especially this facility
Introducing Android users. This technology is used by Gemini Nano AI in the name of ‘spam detection alerts’.
How does it work?
When you talk to someone on the phone, Google listens to your conversation and collects keywords. Google will send an alert if there are any suspicious keywords. (Eg) If someone contacts you with the name of a bank representative, if they use words related to bank transactions, such as card number, password, etc., Google will automatically send an alert to the user. It will send a message that this may be a spam call.
Thanks to Gemini Nano, @Android will warn you in the middle of a call as soon as it detects suspicious activity, like being asked for your social security number and bank info. Stay tuned for more news in the coming months. #GoogleIO pic.twitter.com/wtc3rrk0Gc

However, don’t worry that this will affect your privacy. This process works entirely through your device. Google does not collect any data. Also one can enable this opt-in feature manually.
Currently this feature is only available to select Android users. Offered only for Google Pixel 8 Pro and Galaxy S24 series smartphones. However, it is expected that this facility will be extended to many people in the coming days.
