Chief Minister M.K.Stalin has written a letter to the Honorable Union Minister Jayashankar urging him to take immediate action to release all the fishermen and their fishing boats arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.
In this regard, in his letter, he urged the Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin, Hon’ble Union Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar has written to him today (19-6-2024).
In the akkaditham, four fishermen from Tamilnadu who went fishing from Kottapattinam fishing port, Pudukottai district in a barge with registration number IND-TN-08-MM-05 were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on 18-6-2024 and their fishing boats were seized. The Hon’ble Chief Minister has expressed his concern that such incidents not only disrupt the livelihood of fishermen but also create a sense of fear and uncertainty among the fishing community and pointed out that there are currently 15 fishermen and 162 fishing boats under the control of the Government of Sri Lanka.
Therefore, Hon’ble Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K.Stalin has requested in his letter to Hon’ble Union Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar to urge the Government of Sri Lanka to immediately release the Tamil Nadu fishermen and their fishing boats arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.
