The FIDE Candidates Chess Series was held in Toronto, Canada. A total of 16 players participated and played. It includes 8 male and 8 female players. The 16 players participating in this have to fight each other 2 times. In the end, the top-ranked player will have the opportunity to face the world chess champion Ding Lirin of China.
Gukesh was already leading the series with 8.5 points at the end of the 13th round yesterday. Meanwhile, Nepomniachi, Nakamura and Papiano Caruna were 2nd with 8 points. In this case, the last round, the 14th round, was held today. In this, Gukesh played against American Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura.
If he loses this match, he will be eliminated from the Candidates Series and will face Nakamura at the moment. But, he played the match brilliantly and drew the match. As a result, he remained at the top with 9 points, which was 8.5 points. At the same time Nepomniachi and Karuna played on the other side. The match was a draw and both were second with 8.5 points.
As a result, India’s young grandmaster Gukesh, who was at the top with 9 points, won this fide chess series and won the title of champion. Also, the world chess champion is set to face China’s famous Grandmaster Ding Lirin. With this, Tamil Nadu player Gukesh became the youngest 17-year-old player to win the Candidates Chess Championship.
After Vishwanath Anand, Gukesh became the 2nd youngest Indian player to reach the final of the World Championship. Also, Tamil Nadu player Gukesh who won the FIDE Championship is getting praises. Also, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin congratulated Gukesh who won the championship title on the X site.
