Minister Thangam Tennarasu has said that the government will provide all assistance to the workers of Mancholai tea plantations. Minister Thangam Tennarasu has said that houseless workers will be given houses under the artist’s dream home scheme and women will be given loans of up to one and a half lakh rupees through women’s self-help groups.
In a statement issued by the Tamil Nadu government, it has been informed that since the operations of Mancholai BBTC tea company in Tirunelveli district, Ambasamutram circle have been terminated, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has ordered to provide all assistance to the workers who worked there. Accordingly, Tirunelveli district in-charge minister Thangam Tennarasu has announced that all the assistance for basic needs and livelihood of the workers will be provided by the government.
Housing for unemployed workers based on the demands of tea plantation workers, representatives of various political parties and welfare movements.
Minister Thangam Tennarasu also said that Chief Minister Stalin has ordered to provide housing and livelihood assistance. Accordingly, existing government norms will be relaxed for homeless workers who want to settle in rural areas and will be given free housing leases and houses under the “Artist Dream House” scheme at their discretion.
In Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board will allot 240 flats in Ambasamutram Vattam, Pappangulam village and nearing completion of flats in Tirunelveli City, Redyarpatti area free of cost to the willing and already houseless mancholi workers on a priority basis.
Among the workers, scheduled caste dependent workers below 55 years of age will be provided with 35% subsidy and 6% interest concession for self-employment under the Annal Ambedkar Business Pioneers Scheme (AABCS). Workers belonging to other categories will be given self-employment loan up to a maximum of Rs 75 lakh with 25% subsidy and 3% interest concession under the New Entrepreneurs and Enterprise Development Scheme (NEEDS).
Skill training will be provided to eligible workers and their family members through Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation and Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission. Arrangements will be made to provide appropriate employment in the private sector to those completing skill training.
Interest-free loans are provided by Aavin Corporation and Co-operative Department for setting up small dairy farms, buying milch cows and goats. Small loans of up to Rs 1.50 lakh will be provided to women through women’s self-help groups. Actions will be taken to enroll the students studying in schools in government schools of their choice and in government hostels on a priority basis so that their education is not affected.
Their Family Card, Aadhaar Card, Voter ID Card will be easily transferred to the address where the workers want to settle through special camps. Pay the remaining 75% gratuity due by the company to the workers as per the court order, as per the rules
Action will be taken by the Labor Welfare Department to ensure that all statutory benefits including monthly pension due are paid properly.
Tirunelveli District In-Charge Minister Thangam Thennarasu said that as per the Chief Minister’s order, the government will provide all necessary assistance for the rehabilitation of the Mancholai tea plantation workers and provide them with basic facilities including housing and livelihood.
