The Chennai Meteorological Department has said that heavy rain will lash various districts from today to Tuesday (May 21).
Due to the presence of a low atmospheric circulation over the southeast coastal areas, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to receive continuous heavy rains
In a statement issued by the Chennai Meteorological Department, “Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning and gusty winds (30 kmph to 40 kmph) may occur at many places in Tamil Nadu, Puduvai and Karaikal today on May 17.
Heavy to very heavy rain at a few places over Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts.
Nilgiris, hilly areas of Coimbatore district, Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi and Pudukottai districts received heavy rainfall.
Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning and gusty winds (30 kmph to 40 kmph) may occur at many places in Tamil Nadu, Puduvai and Karaikal on May 18.
Tenkasi, Theni and Dindigul districts received heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places and Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Tirupattur districts received heavy rain.
Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning and gusty winds (30 kmph to 40 kmph) may occur at many places in Tamil Nadu, Puduvai and Karaikal on May 19.
Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni and Dindigul districts will experience heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places and Nilgiri, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Sivagangai, Ramanathapuram and Pudukottai districts will experience heavy rain at one or two places.

Heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in Tirunelveli, Thenkasi and Theni districts, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram districts. Puducherry and Karaikal regions also received heavy rain at a couple of places.
Light to moderate rain may occur at many places in Tamil Nadu on May 22, Puduvai and Karaikal.
Light to moderate rain may occur at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puduvai and Karaikal on May 23.

For the next 5 days from 17th to 21st May, the maximum temperature is likely to be generally normal / below normal over Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal.

The skies will remain mostly cloudy for the next 24 hours. A few parts of the city are likely to experience moderate rain with thunder and lightning. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 32-33 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26-27 degree Celsius.
The sky will remain partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. Few parts of the city are likely to receive light/moderate rain. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 34-35 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26-27 degree Celsius.
Warning to Fishermen:
On May 17, Cyclone wind speed of 40 to 45 km/h and intermittent speed of 55 km/h may occur in Kumari Sea, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining South East Coast, South Kerala Coast, South West Bay of Bengal adjacent to Sri Lankan Coast.
On May 18, cyclonic winds with a speed of 40 to 45 kmph and intermittent speed of 55 kmph are likely to occur in the Kumari Sea region, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining southeast coastal areas, Kerala coastal areas, South West Bay of Bengal adjacent to the Sri Lankan coastal areas.
From May 19 to 21, cyclonic winds with a speed of 40 to 45 kmph and intermittent speed of 55 kmph are likely to occur in the areas of the Kumari Sea, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining southeast coastal areas, Kerala-Karnataka coastal areas, South West Bay of Bengal adjacent to the Sri Lankan coast.
Fishermen are advised not to go to these areas on the above mentioned days.” It is reported that.
