Tata Motors had showcased the Racer version of their Altras model, one of the best-selling hatchback models in India, at last year’s Auto Expo and this year’s Bharat Mobility Show. It has been reported that Tata is going to launch the Ultraz Racer version in early June.
Tata Motors is developing this racer version as a direct competitor to Hyundai’s i20 N Line hatchback version. The new Razer Edition Altras gets design changes such as dual tone colour, dual racing stripes on the bonnet and roof, Razor patch on the front fenders, a slightly reshaped grille and new alloy wheels.
The interior of the Altras Razer Edition model can also be seen with new colors on the dashboard and seating upholstery. The Altras Razer Edition model will get additional features like 10.25-inch touchscreen, front ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, heads-up display and voice-assisted sunroof. Also, for safety, six airbags and ESC will come as standard.
In this Altras Racer Edition model, Tata is going to use the same three-cylinder 1.2 liter turbo petrol engine that is used in their Nexon model. Mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, the engine is capable of producing 120hp of power and 170Nm of torque.
Also, this variant will be the flagship model of the Ultras line-up when the Razer Edition is launched. The Altras iTurbo variant, currently the flagship variant of the Altras lineup, gets the same engine that produces 10hp less power and 30Nm of torque than the Razer edition. Also, many of the features offered in this Razer edition are not available in the iTurbo variant.
Currently, the Altras top-end iTurbo variant is priced between Rs 9.20 lakh and Rs 10.10 lakh ex-showroom. The new Astras Razer version is expected to be priced higher than this. Along with the Hyundai i20 N Line variant, the new Ultraz Racer Edition will also face competition from the turbo-petrol variants of the Maruti Franks and Toyota Dazer models in terms of price.
