Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Southwest Monsoon has started over West, East Rajasthan, parts of Haryana and across Delhi.
Due to the heavy rains that started last night, various parts of Delhi have been flooded. It has been reported that about 150 mm of rain has fallen in three hours from 2.30 am to 5.30 am today. 228 mm of rain has been recorded in the last 24 hours.
Due to this heavy rain, the roof of Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport collapsed and there were casualties. Also, flight services at Delhi airport have also been affected.
Due to rain water flooding in various parts of Delhi, rain water entered houses in low lying areas. Due to heavy rains, flight services, train services and Delhi Metro services have been affected.
Especially in areas like Delhi Minto Bridge, Moolchand, Vinod Nagar and Aurobindo Road, many vehicles have been drowned in stagnant rainwater. It is to be noted that Mindo Bridge was recently removed from the list of ‘hot spot’ areas for rain water logging by the Delhi government. The BJP is severely criticizing this.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi said about the heavy rains that authorities are identifying rain water reservoirs and carrying out rescue operations to prevent flooding.
Also, rescue operations have started faster than in the past. It is the first rain of monsoon. At present the rainwater affected areas have been identified. All departmental officers are engaged in field work. Mayor Oberoi said that work is going on in all affected areas.
The Delhi government has convened an emergency meeting today at 2 pm at the Delhi Chief Secretariat to discuss the heavy rain relief measures. All ministers and important officials from all departments have been instructed to attend this meeting.
