The 27th anniversary of the 1997 Madurai Melavala massacre was held today. Vishika leader Thirumavalavan, Madurai Lok Sabha member S. Venkatesan and others participated and paid their respects.
Addressing the event, Thirumavalavan said, “In 1990, when I assumed the leadership of Vishik, I decided that we did not want the election route. But now, when the party starts, the party itself starts with the Chief Minister’s dream. We are also seeing a situation where they are declaring that they are the next Chief Minister.
But, don’t think that you will get the crown in politics, you have to be ready to take the animal in your hands. I told them not to come behind me thinking that we will go to the assembly, but come and prepare to go to the prison roads,” he said.
He said that I came into politics for the people and my policy is to politicize the people, he said that now as a recognized party, the Liberation Tigers have emerged as an irresistible political party with 4 members of the Legislative Assembly and 2 members of the Lok Sabha.
Thirumavalavan, who later met the press, said, “Visika is firmly committed to the policy of total abstinence in the issue of illegal liquor. Not only the state government but also the Union government should consider the prohibition of alcohol. Alcohol prohibition should be implemented at the national level.
On 17th September, the birthday of Father Periyar, an anti-liquor conference will be held on behalf of Visika. This conference will be conducted by women. The venue for the conference will be announced soon,” he said.
An indirect criticism of Vijay?
Now actor Vijay has started a party called Tamil Nadu Victory Kazhagam and has entered politics. He has also announced that he will win the 2026 election and sow the seeds for political change. In this situation, Thirumavalavan is said to have indirectly criticized actor Vijay saying that the chief minister is starting a party with his dream. But, it was said in general and Thirumavalavan did not mention anyone by name, say the Vishikavas.
