Honda has launched their updated 2024 Freed MPV in Japan. Honda is expected to launch this updated version in Japan next month. What is the talk in India about the MPV model that will be launched in Japan, you ask?
Honda had once planned to launch this freed MPV model in India. Yes, the company planned to launch the Freed MPV in 2012 as a rival to the Maruti Ertiga MPV that was sold in India at that time. But, as a just miss, the Mobilio MPV model was introduced in India in 2014 instead of this Freed MPV.
However, the mobile model failed in India and Honda stopped selling it in India in 2017. Honda has now completely redesigned the Freed MPV for 2024. In this Freed MPV, Honda has used the same underpinnings as the City sedan sold in India.
The Freed MPV will be launched in Japan in two styling variants, the standard Freed model and the slightly more rugged-looking Freed Crossstar. At 4.3 meters in length, the Freed MPV has a wheelbase of 2.74 meters. It is more than City.
Honda has used two types of powertrains in this updated Freed model, petrol and petrol-hybrid. Honda will also be selling the Freed with a 1.5-litre petrol engine setup with two electric motors, which is used in the Honda City Hybrid model. The entry-level Freed model is offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a CVT gearbox option.
Honda is currently focusing on the City and Elevate SUV models in India. While the new updated Amaze model is expected to be launched in India by the end of this year, Honda is also developing an elevated electric car model to launch in the next few years.
