State Minister for Rural Economy Kadar Mastan said that President Ranil Wickramasinghe has paid special attention to the development activities of the war-affected Northern Province and for that, the members of parliament representing the region have been allocated funds for development work.
He further mentioned that the economy, which had suffered setbacks in the past, is now becoming stable, thereby improving the living conditions of the people.
Minister of State Khader Mastan said this at a media conference held today (06) at the Presidential Media Centre.
State Minister Qader Mastan who further commented here,
“Today people are fulfilling their needs to some extent. In this situation, massive work projects of the government are going on in our areas, especially in Vavuniya, Mullaithivu and Mannar districts.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe has built the economy of this country which was in decline. Due to this, the life of the economically weak people is improving. Besides, the President is also giving land rights to the people. He has come directly to the Northern Province under the “Urumaya” program, which provides 20 lakh land guarantees, and has taken steps to provide fully entitled land guarantees to those people.
Also, about 18000 people in Mullaitivu district, about 10,000 people in Vavuniya district and about 12,000 people in Mannar district will be given land guarantees. We told President Ranil Wickramasinghe that there is a shortage of manpower in the work of speedy delivery of land. The President has also informed that he will take steps to get the solutions.
Also, the work of rebuilding the abandoned ponds, drains and damaged roads is also going on through our ministry. Similarly, a program to provide goats for livelihood and seeds for grain cultivation is also underway. Development works with foreign financial assistance are also taking place. The development work of about 15 kilometers of road, which was abandoned midway during the economic crisis, is also underway.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe is paying special attention to the development work of the Northern Province as a war-affected province. The President is taking forward these works by allocating necessary funds especially to the Members of Parliament there and uniting them all.
Moreover, during the war, the land that was marked as forest, not dense forest, is being gradually cleared. The President has instructed the relevant authorities to take immediate action to provide necessary relief to the people affected by the flood disaster in large parts of the country.
Similarly, during the President’s visit to Northern Ghana, special attention was paid to the promotion of tourism in our areas. “We have informed the President that there is a need to open the Marichukkatti – Mannar Jaffna road, which passes through Puttalam Izhavangulam,” State Minister for Rural Economy Khader Mastan further said.
