There is no risk of landslides in Nilgiri district – Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Water

Nilgiris Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Nyayttu has said that there is false information being spread on social media that there will be landslides in Nilgiris district as well as in Wayanad and people should not believe them.

The Nilgiri district has been receiving continuous rain for the last 2 weeks as the southwest monsoon has intensified. As a result, landslides and tree falls have occurred at various places. In this situation, India Meteorological Department has issued a warning that Nilgiri district will receive very heavy rain till tomorrow evening.
Following this, a 32-member National Disaster Response Force from Arakkonam was called to Utkai yesterday. The district fire department has also been put on alert.

In this situation, District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya inspected the water in person and inspected the equipment used by the National Disaster Response Force and Fire Department during the heavy rains in Utagai. Later, he met the reporters and said that false information is being spread on social media that there will be landslides in some places in the Nilgiris district, like the one in Wayanad, and the public should not believe it. The collector also said that action will be taken against those who spread such rumours.

He said that the district administration is ready to deal with the heavy rain and the National Disaster Response Force has been called as a precaution. He said that currently 42 teams with 500 people with all kinds of equipment are ready in the Nilgiris district and tourists coming to the district can immediately contact the emergency number 1077 if there is any danger to the public. Collector Lakshmi Bhavya said that all the departments are engaged in monitoring the calamities even at night and necessary arrangements will be made for the general public who want to stay in the camps.

He said that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has personally heard about the effects of heavy rains and said that a team of experts from the Indian Geological Department is going to come this week to inspect the places where there is a risk of landslides in the Nilgiris district. He said that the team will inspect the places already identified by the district administration and report on the safety measures to be taken there, after which measures will be taken for the safety of the residents and public in the landslide areas. He also informed that a person has come to inspect the damage near Kudalur.
