Sri Lanka has initiated a special operation to arrest and bring back 30 criminals who have fled the country and are now engaged in drug trafficking and underworld activities here while operating from overseas, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said.
He said the Government has received information about 29 underworld criminals operating from Dubai and one in France.
The Minister also said that negotiations have already started with the relevant countries to bring those underworld members back to Sri Lanka, Minister Alles revealed this during a public event in Kirindiwela yesterday.
The Minister stressed that discussions were underway with relevant countries for their extradition to Sri Lanka.
Commenting on the operation ‘Yukthiya’, the Minister said the Government aims to halt underworld activities and drug trafficking in the country and the operation which was launched with that aim will continue irrespective of pressure and obstacles.
