Election2024 : The enforcement department has refused to hear the case of confiscation of Rs 4 crore related to Nayanar Nagendran.
Polling was held in all 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu on April 19 during the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. After the announcement of the date of election, till the time of polling, the election flying force officials were engaged in intensive inspection.
At that time, 4 crore rupees were confiscated from a person related to Nellie BJP candidate and BJP MLA Nayanar Nagendran at Tambaram railway station. Nayanar Nagendran’s name was mentioned in the case record, although Nayanar Nagendran’s side claimed that the money had nothing to do with them.
Similarly, 28 lakh rupees were seized from DMK office related to Nellie Congress candidate Robert Bruce. This too has been confiscated by the birth force officials and a case has been registered.
Raghavan, an independent candidate from Nellie, continued the case in the Madras High Court, claiming that the enforcement department should investigate these two money confiscation cases as illegal money transaction cases.
When the trial of this case came up for hearing today before the judge, the lawyer who argued on behalf of the enforcement department said that the cases related to the money seized by the election flying soldiers do not come under the provisions of illegal money transaction, so we cannot investigate it.
A bench of Madras High Court Judges MS Ramesh and Sundar Mohan adjourned the case saying that the enforcement department should prepare a report and submit it to the court by the 24th.
