Three more submarines for Indian Navy

Steps have been taken to procure three more submarines for the Indian Navy.

Under this scheme, Scorpene class submarines are to be procured. Designed by the French Naval Group and manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited, the submarines will incorporate up to 60 per cent indigenous technology and science. Necessary instructions have been issued to the concerned party.

During the interview, ‘Though these submarines will be manufactured with French design, the main part of the structure especially for warfare will be manufactured by Bharat Electronics.

It will be a unique project. It is a good initiative of the Indian Navy to future-proof the Navy based on indigenous resources and expertise. He also mentioned that the Scorpene design will be a new design incorporating modern technologies and superior combat capabilities.

The Indian Navy is in talks to manufacture all three submarines at the Mazakan Shipyard, which has a partnership with the French Naval Group. However, the Navy expects to receive six boats by the end of this year.

The three submarines are being procured as part of efforts to build up the Indian Submarine Force. The squadron is to be built to include 21 new boats and around six nuclear powered submarines.
