The 100cc segment is the segment that sells the most bikes in India. After that, most bikes are sold in the 150cc – 200cc segment. The sale of bikes in this segment is increasing more than ever. 100cc customers are also interested in buying bikes with engine capacity above 150cc. Naked bikes have more competition in this 150-200cc segment than commuter bikes. Bike manufacturers are launching stylish street naked and sport naked bikes in this segment to attract the youth. Bajaj Pulsar Series:
Bajaj sells various Pulsar bikes in the 150-200 cc segment. The company sells seven types of Pulsar bikes in this segment namely Pulsar 150, Pulsar N150, Pulsar NS150, Pulsar N160, Pulsar NS160, Pulsar NS200 and Pulsar RS200. Bajaj sold 50,739 Pulsar bikes in India last April alone. This is 39.71 percent higher than April last year and 16.61 percent higher than March last year.
TVS Apache Series:
Second in this list is TVS’s Apache series. Under this series, TVS is selling five models of bikes namely RTR 160, RTR 160 4V, RTR 180, RTR 200 4V and RP 165 in the 150-200cc segment. TVS sold 45,520 Apache bikes in April alone. This is 19.32 percent higher than April last year and 32.96 percent higher than March last year.
Honda Unicorn:
The first commuter bike on this list is the Honda Unicorn. Honda stopped the production of this bike in India in 2021. Due to the newly introduced pollution control norms, the production of this bike was discontinued in India. Following this, the Unicorn was re-launched last year with an updated engine to meet BS6/OBD2 emission norms. Honda sold 25,889 Unicorn bikes in India last April alone. 39.69 percent higher than last March.
Yamaha FZ Series:
The FZ series, which has been popular with India’s youth for years, has seen a dip in sales over the past month. Yes, sales of FZ bike models have decreased by 34.17 percent compared to April last year and 14.71 percent compared to March last year. Under this series, Yamaha sells FZ-S FI Ver 3.0, FZ-S FI Ver 4.0, FZ-FI and FZ-X bike models in the 150-200cc segment. It is also said that the sales of the company’s other 150cc bikes may be the reason for the decline.
Yamaha MT15:
As mentioned above, while the sales of Yamaha’s other 150cc bike, the FZ, has been on the decline, sales of the MT-15, another 150cc bike, have continued to rise. Yamaha sold 13,359 MT-15 bikes in India last April alone. This is 198.93 percent higher than April last year and 29.89 percent higher than March last year. It is noteworthy that Yamaha sold only 4,469 MT-15 bikes in April last year.
Yamaha R15:
Yamaha’s 150cc bikes are taking the next place. Yamaha’s budget premium bike R15 is very popular among the youth. Yamaha sold 11,146 R15 bikes in India last April alone. This is a decrease of 1.31 percent compared to April last year. But it is 10.41 percent higher than last March.
Honda SP 160:
Another commuter bike in this list is the SP 160. With engine capacity above 150cc, it is a family friendly bike which is also popular among customers. Honda sold 8,260 SP 160 bikes in April alone. This is 71.44 percent higher than last March. It is noteworthy that Honda introduced this bike only last year.
KTM 200, Honda Hornet 2.0 and Hero Expels 200:
These three bikes are ranked 8th, 9th and 10th respectively in April sales. Also, all three bikes have registered sales of less than 3,000 units. In April alone, 2,983 KTM 200 bikes, 2,374 Hornet 2.0 bikes and 1931 Expels 200 bikes were sold. While Hero has recorded more sales than last year and last month, it is noteworthy that KTM’s sales have decreased slightly compared to last month.
