Savukku Shankar | Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, Chavku Shankar lawyer Gopalakrishnan met reporters at the Coimbatore Integrated Court Complex and gave an interview. Here is what he said:-
Yesterday, a petition was filed in the 4th Criminal Court regarding the attack on Chawku Shankar in jail. Based on that petition, 3 lawyers and 2 doctors on behalf of the district legal services met and visited Chavku Shankar directly in the jail.
He is in the same condition as he was the day before yesterday with injuries. While pain pills were given till yesterday, they have been giving water till yesterday. Allegations of broken arm and injuries mentioned in the petition have been heard.
The medical report given by the Coimbatore Central Jail Administration stated that Chawku Shankar required additional medical treatment but the required medical treatment was not carried out. A petition was filed yesterday stating that the medical assistance provided was not provided and today the District Legal Affairs Commission has conducted a direct investigation, the report of the prison department in Chennai is surprising.
Chavku Shankar, who signed the arrest memo before the judge on Saturday, has put his fingerprint on the copy given to him by the Theni police this morning. Why is he fingerprinted?
While the Coimbatore Cybercrime Police’s hearing on the police petition was held yesterday, the hearing has been adjourned because Chavik Shankar is likely to tell the judge about the attack on him. No x-rays were taken until this moment.
We are going to get the report of the Legal Affairs Commission which directly inspected the jail and ask for treatment of Chavik Shankar in a private hospital tomorrow. We only ask for x-rays.
This effort is not only for Chav Shankar, human rights violations and lock-up attacks are happening daily by the police, and we have taken this effort to correct it. Let’s go to State and National Human Rights Commission too, but first medical help is necessary, we struggled for 2 days and couldn’t get an x-ray.
Chavku Shankar feels that he is being retaliated by the police for speaking against the government. I will say that the police can file a case only if he is alive after receiving medical help. Police anarchy and torture in prisons are the main focus in this case. We hope that the report of the Law Commission yesterday will prove that the prison report is wrong,” he said.
