Hyundai has trademarked a new CNG technology called ‘Hy-CNG Duo’. Looking at the name, it seems that Hyundai is going to offer the twin cylinder technology that other companies are offering under this new name.
Currently, Hyundai is also selling CNG cars in India to compete with Maruti and Tata. Hyundai also sells the CNG variants of the Grand i10 Nias, Aura and Exter in India.
Earlier CNG was mostly used in commercial vehicles only. However, CNG-equipped variants are now being sold in personal utility vehicles as well due to lower utility costs, higher mileage and lower cost of petrol.
Maruti is also the number one seller of CNG cars. But Tata is the first to introduce new CNG technologies. Tata was the first to offer this twin cylinder technology in their CNG car models. Following this, Maruti is preparing to launch CNG cars with twin cylinder technology.
Following them, Hyundai is also going to use this twin cylinder technology. One of the possible minuses of CNG cars is limited boot space. The CNG cylinder for that car is kept in the boot space of the car. This results in CNG cars having very little or no boot space.
Tata started using twin cylinder technology in their CNG cars to avoid this problem. Accordingly, instead of only one large CNG cylinder, two small CNG cylinders will be used in this technology. With this, users get a substantial amount of boot space. Following other companies, Hyundai has now adopted this technology.
