Also President Ranil Wickramasinghe who commented here,
Today I am pleased to attend the second phase of the presentation of letters of appointment to the new Regional Organizers appointed under the UNP Restructuring Programme.
There was a long discussion in Parliament today about the Gender Equality Bill. But according to the High Court ruling in this regard, women do not have equal rights. I told the Parliament that the majority of women in the country’s population cannot get that right, which can be considered as a decision against the Parliament and the Constitution of this country.
Our aim is to give women the same rights as men. It is included in all treaties of international women’s organizations. No judicial, executive, legislative or any other body can interfere in the fulfillment of that purpose.
We are committed to accomplishing that task. So today I told the Parliament not to create fear in this regard. Similarly, it was also informed that the proposal could not be accepted as the protection of Buddhism would be removed by the resolution. We are currently working on it.
