AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palanichamy said that the Vidya DMK government should stop the Andhra government from building a barrage across the river.
In his social media post in this regard, he said, “There have been reports that Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has said that new barrages will be built across the river. Balaru flows 33 kilometers in Andhra state, 222 kilometers in Tamil Nadu and then flows into the sea. It is not acceptable to try to build a barrage without Tamil Nadu’s permission across the Bala River, a source of water that the northern districts of Tamil Nadu rely heavily on.
My strong condemnation to the Chief Minister of Vidya DMK Government who has been silent on the rights of Tamil Nadu to the neighboring states like Mulla Periyar, Kaveri-Meghadatu, Palaru. I urge the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu to respect the rights of Tamil Nadu and abandon the attempt to build a barrage. “I urge Vidya DMK Chief Minister M.K.Stalin to take appropriate legal action to prevent the construction of a barrage across the river without ignoring state rights as always.”
