The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. The All India Alliance, which includes the Congress and the DMK, which won 232 seats, will sit in the Lok Sabha as the strongest opposition party.
Especially in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the DMK-led alliance won 40 out of 40 constituencies. AIADMK and BJP lost all the constituencies they contested.
In the Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency, Manikam Thakur contested on behalf of Congress, Vijayakanth’s son Vijay Prabhakaran on behalf of DMDK and Radhika Sarathkumar on behalf of BJP. As the votes were counted, Vijaya Prabhakaran was in the early lead. But in the end, Manickam Thakur won by a margin of 4,379 votes. Vijaya Prabhakaran of Demudika secured 3,80,877 votes.
In this context, the DMD is insisting that there has been an irregularity in the counting of the election votes and that a recount should be conducted. Vijaya Prabhakaran filed a complaint in this regard at the Chief Election Commission in Delhi today.
Later, Vijaya Prabhakaran, who met the media, said, “We have submitted a petition to conduct a recount of votes in Virudhunagar. He did not demand re-election. We have submitted all the evidence relating to the occurrence of irregularities. Election Commission officials said that they will review and announce the result in a week. I am sure that justice will be done,” he said.
Vijaya Prabhakaran said that the counting of the 19th round started directly from the 13th round. We have put forward several reasons including that the postal votes were opened and counted separately after everyone had left. If we do not get justice in this regard, we will approach the court,” he said.
He also said, “Demudika is not a party that fears failure. Let the re-counting be conducted in Virudhu Nagar and the results announced. Martatti I heartily welcome and accept it. Vijaya Prabhakaran said, “This is an expression of the pain caused by not getting recognition for working hard.”
