In Kallakurichi Karunapuram on the 18th, after drinking poisonous alcohol mixed with methanol, many people suffered from eye irritation and severe stomach pain from midnight. More than 150 people in the village drank this poison. The victims have been admitted to hospitals in Puducherry, Kallakurichi, Villupuram and Salem.

In this case, Kallakurichi poisoning case was transferred to CBCID police. Liquor Prohibition and Enforcement Division Police are continuously detecting and arresting illegal liquor and methanol across Tamil Nadu. Yesterday more than 800 persons were arrested and 4000 liters of liquor was destroyed.
In this case, 9 people have been arrested so far in the Kallakurichi poisoning case, and one more person has been arrested today. Chennai MGR Prohibition and Enforcement Division police arrested a key criminal named Sivakumar who was lurking in the city. He is working in a private company and has been arrested for distributing methanol to make poisonous alcohol.
Sivakumar was arrested and handed over to the CBCID police by the Prohibition and Enforcement Division. More than 140 people are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital due to the alcohol consumption issue in Kallakurichi.
