Summer heat is scorching across the country like never before. Record temperatures are being recorded in every city. The situation of wild animals and stray dogs is very bad while people are struggling to deal with this.
Due to scarcity of food and water, they face great hardship. In this case, a PIL filed by Siva, the founder of the Animal Welfare Trust, was filed in the Madras High Court.
In the petition, “not only humans but also animals are affected due to the fierce summer heat. Animal-human conflicts occur as wild animals enter the town in search of water. The government has a duty to protect all living beings. Therefore, water centers should be established at specific places for wild animals.
I petitioned the government to ensure that stray dogs get food and water. No action has been taken on the petition so far. Therefore, his petition should be considered and water and food should be provided to wild animals and stray dogs during summer,” he said.
The case came up for hearing today (May 9) before a bench comprising Justices Jagadish Chandra and Kalamati.
The judges who heard the case ordered the Tamil Nadu government to inform the government about the plans for providing food and water to wild animals and stray dogs and ordered the hearing to be postponed for six weeks.
