Ilayaraja: Music composer The Madras High Court has adjourned the hearing of the ongoing case.
The Madras High Court has ordered action in a case related to rights dispute related to film songs between a private record company named Echo and Ace Music.
That is, music companies including Echo had contracted to use 4,500 songs of composer Ilayaraja. But even after the agreement, composer Ilayaraja had filed a lawsuit for using his songs without obtaining copyright.
Anita Sumant, single judge of the Madras High Court, who heard the case, said that since there is nothing in the songs without the lyrics, the music composer Ilayaraja cannot claim to be the creator of the song, and what happens if the lyricist also claims a song? The lyrics and the singer come together to form the song.
The Madras High Court has commented on the appeal filed by the companies seeking to lift the interim ban imposed on the use of Ilayaraja’s song saying that if there are no lyrics then there is no song. Subsequently, the hearing of the case was adjourned to the second week of June.
