Villupuram District Collector Dr. C. Palani has said in a press release that the news reported today on some private televisions about the mixture of faeces in the drinking well located in Villupuram District, Vikravandi Circle, Kanchanur Mathura KR Palayam Village is completely wrong.
On the order of the District Collector, a team consisting of Additional Collector (Development), Vikravandi Revenue District Officer, Land Development Officer, Executive Engineer, Tamil Nadu Drinking Water and Drainage Board visited the concerned place.
The executive engineer of the Tamil Nadu Drinking Water and Drainage Board has tested the water in the said well and it has been informed that the drinking water is completely safe.
Also, it is reported that the material which has been reported as excrement is a honey jar. It was demonstrated in front of the people living in KR Palayam village. However, the District Collector has ordered to construct a fence with iron bars on the said well.
Following this, Villupuram Member of Parliament Ravikumar praised the district administration. In a press release issued by him in this regard, it has been confirmed that what was found in a drinking well near Kanjanur in Villupuram district is not faeces, but honey.
Kudos to the District Collector for taking quick action and giving an explanation. He has said that he has requested all parties including the media to handle events that cause social tension with caution as the Vikrawandi by-elections are about to take place.
