Jairam Ramesh protested against the relocation of statues of Gandhi, Ambedkar and Shivaji to the lawn of the old building.
No party got an absolute majority in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Narendra Modi is currently in power for the third term with the support of coalition parties.
In this case, the 18th Lok Sabha is coming soon. Then the new MPs will take office. After this, the work of cleaning the Parliament and the Parliament premises is going on.
In this situation, the statues of Annal Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Chhatrapati Shivaji etc. located in the Parliament complex have been removed.
All of them have been relocated to the lawn near the old Parliament building. All the statues, including those of tribal leader Birsa Munda and Maharana Pratap, are now placed in the grassy area between the Old Parliament Building and the Parliament Library.
The fact that this transfer was done before the 18th Lok Sabha convened has caused great dissatisfaction.
This decision has been strongly condemned by the Congress party.
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “The statues of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar have been removed from prominent places in the Parliament premises. It is cruel.”
