Chennai Fort Railway Station Works:

Southern Railway has informed that the construction of new platform and track at Chennai Fort Railway Station will be completed in three months, after which the flying train service from Velachery to Fort Railway Station will be started.

Chennai to Egmore Beach 4th Rail Line:

Two railway lines between Chennai and Egmore coast are currently running suburban trains and another line is running express and freight trains. Due to the lack of additional tracks, more trains cannot be run on this route. In this situation, there has been a long demand for the construction of the 4th railway line from Chennai to Egmore coast, and the Railway Board approved the construction of a new railway line at an estimated cost of 274.20 crores at the end of August last year.

Work in Progress:

For this new railway line, the tracks on the flyway at Fort Park Nagar stations were removed. Demolition of the platform walls at the two railway stations, removal of foot overbridges of the 3rd, 4th and 5th platforms at the Fort Railway Station, demolition of the building at the Park Railway Station and the laying of foundations by underground wires along the Koovam river were being carried out.

Tasks in full swing:

At present, while the works for the 4th line between Chennai and Egmore coast are going on in full swing, the initial phase of laying railway tracks has started at many places, besides this, the works of laying railway tracks adjacent to Fort railway station are going on intensively.

Works Completed:

The Southern Railway officials said, “One major bridge and seven minor bridges have been completed on the fourth route between Chennai and Egmore coast.

In three months:

A portion of the railway track runs along the Coovam River. Thus the foundation is laid here. The construction of the retaining wall has also been completed. Fort railway station will be ready in next three months. After that the electric train service between Velachery Fort railway station will be started.
