As the tenure of Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi ends in July, it has been reported that the Union Home Ministry is consulting on the appointment of a new Governor.
RN Ravi joined Indian Police Service in 1976 and was allotted to Kerala Cadre. He has worked as an intelligence officer. He served as the Governor of Meghalaya and Nagaland from 2019 to 2021. Subsequently, after the DMK government took office in Tamil Nadu, he was transferred as the new governor in 2021 as the governor of Tamil Nadu.
The conflict started after the NEET bill was shelved while the Tamil Nadu government and Governor Ravi maintained a smooth relationship initially. The Tamil Nadu government boycotted the tea party hosted by the governor and similarly Governor Ravi was accused by political parties of making comments against the Tamil Nadu government at government functions and spreading RSS ideologies at the graduation ceremony.
Next, he left the Assembly for two years without reading the Governor’s speech approved by the Tamil Nadu Cabinet in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He also created a sensation by suggesting that the national anthem should be sung instead of the Tamilhai greeting. He tried to change what he brought as Tamil Nadu to Tamil Nadu. He backed down from that decision following the criticism that resulted.
The term of RN Ravi, who is the owner of various controversies like this, ends in July.
Therefore, it is said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has started the work to appoint a new Governor for Tamil Nadu. It has been reported that senior BJP leaders who have lost in the parliamentary elections may be appointed as governor.
