9 tips to reduce eye swelling

Some people wake up in the morning with puffy under-eye lids. There are many reasons for this. Lack of sleep is the main reason among them. Apart from these, there are many reasons for puffiness around the eyes such as drinking too much alcohol, lack of water, allergies, poor health, genetics, increased salt content in the body, and make-up devices. Restful sleep is essential!

At least 8 hours of sleep for a person is the time that the body can rest. Due to the present life situation we take very less sleep. When we don’t get enough sleep, puffiness around our eyes occurs. So, make sure you sleep at least 7 to 8 hours a day.

Increase in salinity!

Salt is also a cause of puffiness under the eyes. When our body gets too much salt, it collects as water under the eyes. Salt intake in excess of the daily requirement causes such effects. So make sure you add less amount of salt in your diet.

Wet cloth can be used

A damp cloth can be used above the eyes if there is normal swelling under the eyes. Leave it for at least 20 minutes. After that you can repeat this process with a gap. Also, ice cubes can help reduce swelling.

Tall pillows!

In general, we have heard that high pillows should not be used. However, high pillows can be used when there is puffiness under the eyes. This will help reduce the swelling a bit.

Allergies!

Allergies are said to be the main cause of puffiness around the eyes. Some people may experience allergic reactions due to dust, fungal infections etc. If you have swelling under the eyes due to allergies for a long time, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

Drink enough water!

Water is essential for the functioning of the cells in our body. Dehydration can cause a variety of effects. Dehydration can also be a cause of puffiness around the eyes. Many of us skip drinking water due to lack of time. But we must not forget that dehydration can greatly affect health. So, make sure you drink enough water daily.

Avoid alcohol!

Excessive alcohol consumption is a major cause of puffiness under the eyes. Alcohol makes our body absorb more water and causes dehydration. So completely avoiding or reducing alcohol intake can help reduce puffiness under the eyes.

Potassium deficiency!

Potassium deficiency is one of the causes of puffiness around the eyes. Potassium helps balance excess water in our body. So, you can add potassium rich banana, curd, green vegetables etc. in your daily diet.

What you have to do!

Avoid drinking alcohol or coffee before going to sleep. As the food we eat takes time to digest, finish your dinner at least 3 hours before. Avoid activities like exercise before going to sleep. Set aside a proper time to sleep every day and tell yourself to sleep at that time regularly. Also avoid spending time on social media after going to bed.
