In a nationwide roundup on Wednesday (05). The police said that 18 more members of the underworld gang have been arrested. The roundup has been carried out by 20 special teams formed to crack down on underworld activities.
Police said 18 more people suspected to be associated with underworld gangs were arrested in the roundup.
08 suspects aged 55, 48, 39, 28, 48, 47, 51 and 27 years old from Colombo 2, 10, 13 and 08 areas have been arrested in a raid by the Colombo Police Crime Squad.
Five suspects aged 30, 51, 35, 32 and 27 years old from Mativela, Angodai, Dehiwela and Rajagiriya areas were arrested in a roundup by the Southern Regional Police Crime Squad of the Western Province.
A 41-year-old man from Pitabethara area was arrested in a roundup by the Crime Squad of Galle Police.
Four persons aged 44, 33, 28 and 48 from Rottumpa and Tangalle areas were arrested in a raid by the Matara Police Crime Squad.
1,439 members of the underworld have been arrested so far in this round-up, which started on March 19.
