Android followed by iPhone; WhatsApp has stopped this feature

In March this year, it was announced that WhatsApp was taking steps to prevent Android users from taking screenshots of other users’ profile pictures. Recently, WhatsApp, which has been focusing on user privacy, has also implemented it. As such, it is currently being implemented for iPhone users as well.

WhatsApp feature that protects user’s privacy

This upcoming update will prevent iOS users from taking screenshots of profile photos, a feature already implemented for Android users. Its purpose is to improve privacy protection across the site.

A screenshot shared by WA Beta Info revealed what the feature will look like when it launches. When iOS users try to take a screenshot of a profile photo, a notification may pop up informing users of the restriction.

Taking screenshots of profile photos is disabled to protect user privacy, the notice said.

While this feature does not completely prevent misuse, the restriction is an important step in mitigating the risk of unauthorized distribution of profile photos.
