Armstrong, the Tamil Nadu president of the Bahujan Samaj Party, was hacked to death at his doorstep yesterday evening. Eleven people have been arrested so far in connection with Armstrong’s murder. They have been lodged in Puzhal Jail.
Arkadu Suresh’s brother, Ponnai Bala, who has been arrested for having planned and killed Armstrong because of his involvement in the murder of rowdy Arkadu Suresh, has given a statement. Armstrong’s assassination sent shockwaves across the country.
Meanwhile, Armstrong’s body has been kept at Bandar Garden School grounds in Perampur, Chennai for public tribute. Bahujan Samaj Party National President Mayawati personally paid tribute to his body. He also put his hand on Armstrong’s wife’s head and comforted her.
Following him, Tamil Nadu Congress leader Selvaperunkai paid tribute to Armstrong. Speaking to the media following this, he insisted that the Tamil Nadu police should provide security to the Scheduled Tribes and their leaders.
And Tamil Nadu Congress leader Cellu Perundagai demanded that Armstrong was killed in a cowardly manner and the real culprits should be arrested. Selvaperunthagai said, “Don’t act cowardly and face us democratically.”
Selvaperunthakai said that there is no need for a CBI investigation into Armstrong’s murder and that the Tamil Nadu police investigation is sufficient. Tamil Nadu Congress leader Selva Perundagai also demanded that the intelligence wing of the police should be strengthened. Selvaperunthagai also said that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu is worrying.
