450,924 applications have been received for the second phase apart from more than 18 lakh candidates who qualified in the first phase. Among them, the work of identifying those who are eligible for welfare benefits will be completed within this month.
1,854,000 people have qualified for the first phase of Ashwesuma scheme. 58.5 billion rupees have been allocated by the government for this purpose. Those who could not apply or failed to apply for the first stage, the Welfare Benefits Council has given an opportunity to reapply.
‘Aswesuma’ welfare is provided under 04 social categories namely Handicapped, Vulnerable, Destitute, Worst Affected Poor and Disability, Old Age and Kidney Patients are given as normal allowances.
Meanwhile, Welfare Benefits Council has introduced a new Mobile App with facilities including Photo, Map, Voice Recording to make field information collection effective.
Accordingly, it is also planned to implement information collection through mobile phone software as a pilot project in the Colombo Divisional Secretariat.
