Passengers have demanded action to run the weekly express train between Ernakulam and Velankanni every day.
Weekly express train
From June 2022, a weekly express train will be operated from Ernakulam, Kerala to Velankanni. This train will depart from Ernakulam on Saturday at 12:15 PM. It will reach Velankanni at 5:50 AM on Sunday morning via Sengottai, Tenkasi, Sankarankoil.

Similarly, the re-route will leave Velangkanni at 6:30 PM on Sunday and reach Ernakulam at 12 noon on Monday.

When this train goes to Velankanni, the Christians of Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai district are convenient to go to Velankanni.
Aerwadi Dargah
Similarly, Islamic pilgrims from Kerala travel to Manamadurai to reach Airwadi Dargah in Ramanathapuram district and take trains from there to Ramanathapuram. Thus it is useful for the people of the three districts in both the religions.
Express train
Passengers have requested to run this weekly express train daily as it is also used by devotees coming from Kerala to Aerwadi and Rameswaram. Passengers also say that this will make it convenient for the people of South District to visit Velankanni.
