First female presidential election in Mexico

Claudia Sheinbaum has been chosen as Mexico’s first female president, according to preliminary election results.

The 61-year-old former mayor of Mexico City, Claudia, won 56 percent of the vote in Sunday’s presidential election, defeating her main rival, businesswoman Societe Galvez.

If this preliminary decision is confirmed, his mentor, Andres Manuel Lopez, will take office as the new president on October 1st. Claudia says she will continue Lopez’s work.

It is worth noting that President Lopez, who has been in office since 2018, will not be able to run for a second term as per the Mexican Constitution, a person can hold the office of president for only one term of six years.
