Huge welcome for President in India – oneindias

48President Ranil Wickremesinghe reached India through Indira Gandhi Airport this morning (09) to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Narendra Modi, who has been elected as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term.

On behalf of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Additional Secretary P. Kumaran, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha, Hindu Ocean Zone Additional Secretary Puneet Agarwal, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India Shenuka Senaviratna gave a grand welcome to the President at the airport and a dance program reflecting Indian culture was held.

The swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister of India will be held today (09) at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi in the presence of the President of India Draupadi Murmu.

The visit of President Ranil Wickremesinghe was given special publicity by the Indian media and banners with pictures of the Sri Lankan President and Prime Minister Modi were seen displayed around the main roundabouts of the capital New Delhi.

Narendra Modi was officially appointed as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s coalition party won the Indian general election, which was held in seven phases and was held for 44 days.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe’s visit to India is accompanied by Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Aruni Wijewardena, Director General of Government Information Department Dinith Sinthaka Karunaratne and Special Secretary to the President Sandra Perera.
