If his sister Priyanka Gandhi had contested in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would have lost by two to three lakh votes, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday.

Addressing the thanksgiving meeting in Raebareli, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, “In Raebareli, Amethi and other parts of the country, India’s alliance parties have come together to fight the elections to reduce the strength of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in Parliament.

I and the Parliamentarians of the All India Party will not be arrogant about the election results. Let us work for the welfare of the people.

During the Kumbabhishekam at the Ram temple, Modi focused on industrialists and other dignitaries, ignoring the common people. “People have taught them a proper lesson by ensuring BJP’s defeat in Ayodhya,” he said.

In her brief address, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi thanked the people for ensuring the party’s victory in Amethi and Raebareli constituencies.
