With the onset of Southwest Monsoon, heavy rains are falling in the Western Ghats, due to which the people are facing difficulties due to the heavy rains in the areas adjacent to the Western Ghats. Part of that was the record rainfall last week in Mancholai of Nellai district.
Prohibition on behalf of Forest Department
Heavy rains washed away the tea plantation villages like Mancholai and Nalu Muthu, so the normal situation was completely affected after the hill recorded in the areas like Uthubaghe, Kakachi, Mancholai since last June. Last week, forest officials banned tourists from visiting the hill villages due to incessant rains.

They also banned access to the Manimutthar waterfall, where there is a lot of water flow in Nellai, and no one should go to these areas until the forest department gives permission to tourists again.

Farmers were happy as the water level of Papanasam Dam and Manimuthar Dam have risen due to rains. During vacations, they usually go to Mancholai hill villages to enjoy the natural beauty but last time tourists were denied permission to go, now Kalakadu Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve Ambasamutram Kottam Deputy Director has issued a notification.
Tourists are allowed to visit Mancholai hill villages
In the notification, the Ambasamudram Forest Department said that the amount of rain has decreased in the Western Ghats, so from today only ten vehicles will be allowed to go to Mancholai Hill villages on a priority basis. The forest department has given permission during the weekend and it has been well received by the tourists.
