The Food Supply Department has announced that the work of issuing 2 lakh ration cards has started.
Ration card is the main tool for purchasing the goods provided under the Public Distribution Scheme. Similarly, the ration card is important for availing various social welfare schemes of the Tamil Nadu government.
Due to the rules of conduct for the 2024 parliamentary elections, the work of issuing new ration cards was suspended. In this case, about 2 lakh new people are waiting for applying for ration card. The Department of Food Supply has informed that the work of issuing 2 lakh new ration cards has started now.
About 2 lakh people have applied for a new ration card, according to the supply department. Accordingly, 2 lakh applications have been divided district-wise and sent to the districts and the officials of those districts have started the process of reviewing the applications and issuing ration cards to the eligible people.
While the rules of election conduct were relaxed two days ago, the work of issuing new ration cards has started from today. The process of issuing ration cards to the already verified applicants has now started. The Department of Food Supply has informed that the process of verification of the remaining pending applications will be completed and the ration cards will be issued to the eligible persons soon.
