Presidential Election 2024 September 21; A very special gazette was published

– Acceptance of nominations: August 15 (Thursday)
– Filing of Nomination: At Election Commission office

A special gazette notification has been issued by the Election Commission announcing the date for the presidential election expected to be held this year.

Accordingly, the 2024 presidential election and voting/referendum date has been announced as Saturday, September 21.

Thursday, August 15th has been announced as the date for the nomination of candidates for the presidential election by name.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that nominations for the election will be filed at the Election Commission office in Rajagiriya.

So far Maubhima Janata Party leader Dilith Jayaweera, Vijayadasa Rajapaksa and Sarath Fonseka have officially announced that they will contest the presidential election.

Apart from them, Anura Kumara Dissanayake representing the main parties National People’s Shakti Party and Sajith Premadasa representing the United People’s Shakti Party will be contesting.

It has also been announced that the current President Ranil Wickremesinghe will contest again.

A few parties, including the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Party, have indicated that they will announce their candidate soon.
