Narendra Modi will take office as the Prime Minister of the country for the third time today. It is said that the Telugu Desam Party, which is part of the National Democratic Alliance, will be given two ministerial posts in the central cabinet. In this case, it has been revealed that one of them, Chandra Shekhar, is a very rich MP.
Chandrasekhar, who contested and won the Guntur constituency, is a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) medical professional residing in the US. He is the richest member of the 18th Lok Sabha and in his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, he has stated that he has family assets of more than Rs 5,705 crore.
Chandra Shekhar, 48, who holds an MD in internal medicine from Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania, has made his political foray into this election. Bemmasani Chandrasekhar, who is also the founder and CEO of online learning platform ‘UWorld’, is involved in philanthropic activities including giving scholarships and organizing health camps through the Bemmasani Foundation.
Bemmasani Chandrasekhar also took an initiative to provide free drinking water in Narasaravpet area of Guntur district. Chandra Shekhar won the prestigious Ernst & Young Award for Young Entrepreneur in 2020, competing with around 200 top business leaders in the US.
Bemmasani Chandrasekhar fielded Chandrasekhar as the Telugu Desam candidate in Guntur following the withdrawal of Amara Raja Batteries Limited owner Kalla Jayadev. Chandrasekhar secured 864,948 votes, defeating YSR Congress Party’s (YSRCP) Kilari Venkata Rosaiah by a margin of 3.4 lakh votes.
