The leaders of the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to continue strong India-Sri Lankan relations

12President Ranil Wickremesinghe conveyed his heartiest congratulations to Narendra Modi who took office as the Prime Minister of India for the 3rd consecutive term and the leaders of the two countries reiterated their commitment to continue strong India-Sri Lanka relations.

Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony was held in a grand manner at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi yesterday (09) afternoon. On the special invitation of Narendra Modi, President Ranil Wickremesinghe also joined the event.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Maldives President Mohamed Muisu, Seychelles Vice President, Mauritius Prime Minister and Bhutan Prime Minister attended the swearing-in ceremony and among the regional heads of state President Ranil Wickremesinghe was given high recognition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a group photo with regional leaders after taking the oath of office. President Ranil Wickremesinghe was given a seat next to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickremesinghe and other heads of state attended the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The presence of President Ranil Wickremesinghe at the swearing-in ceremony was highlighted by the Indian media and banners bearing the image of the Sri Lankan President and Prime Minister Modi were displayed around the main roundabouts of New Delhi.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe was accompanied by Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Aruni Wijewardena, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to India Shenuka Senawiratne, Director General of Government Information Dinith Sinthaka Karunaratne and Special Secretary to the President Sandra Perera also attended the swearing in ceremony.
