Prime Minister Narendra Modi is contesting from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh for the third time on behalf of the BJP.

36 of the nominations filed to contest in that constituency were rejected. Subsequently, 7 contestants including Modi are in the field in Varanasi.

Voting in Varanasi constituency was held on June 1. Since Modi has contested, all the attention of the people is on Varanasi.

Ajay Roy has contested against Modi on behalf of Congress. He is contesting from Varanasi constituency for the third time. Ajay Roy, who was earlier in the BJP, is now the Uttar Pradesh State Congress President.

Earlier, Modi won the Himalayan constituency by contesting the Varanasi constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He got 6 lakh 74 thousand 664 votes. Samajwadi Party candidate Shalini Yadav, who came second, got 1 lakh 95 thousand 159 votes.

Congress’s Ajay Rai came third with 1.52 lakh votes. Earlier, Modi had defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal who had contested from the Varanasi constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Modi got 3 lakh 71 thousand 784 votes in that election.
