Wickramabaku Karunaratne passed away in Colombo – oneindias

Veteran Sri Lankan politician and Nava Sama Samaj Party leader Kalanithi Wickramabaku Karunaratne has passed away.

His relatives announced that he passed away yesterday morning (25) at the age of 81, while receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, Sugaveenamutu.

Wickramabaku Karunaratne contested the 2010 presidential election on the table symbol. Born on March 8, 1943, Wickramabaku Karunaratne is a Cambridge academic and a Sri Lankan scientist. He received his primary education at Madhugama Ananda Sastralaya before going to Ananda College, Colombo for his secondary education. After that, he was selected for the then University of Ceylon and obtained a first class honors degree in electrical engineering from there.

He was awarded a Doctorate in 1970 with the opportunity to study at Cambridge University on a Commonwealth Scholarship. After that he came back to Sri Lanka and continued his academic and political and social service career.
