Southwest rainfall will increase again from today

The current rainfall situation in the south-west region of the country is expected to increase from today (08) for the next few days.

Occasional rain is expected in Upper, Sabaragamuwa, North Western and Southern provinces and Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Moderately heavy rainfall of more than 50 mm is expected at some places in Mel and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

It is expected to rain several times in North, North Central Provinces and Matalai District.

There is a possibility of rain or thundershowers at some places in Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts in the evening or at night.

There is a possibility of strong wind blowing at a speed of 40-50 km per hour from time to time in North, North Central and North West provinces and Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Temporarily gusty winds may also occur in those areas during thunderstorms.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the damage caused by lightning strikes.
