Hyundai is selling the Ioniq 5 electric car model in India. The company has now recalled 1,700 Ion 5 models manufactured between January 2023 and April 2024 due to a possible defect in the ICCU component.

This component, called the ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit), adjusts the voltage level from the primary battery to the second smaller battery that the Ionic 5 may have. The second smaller battery is just a 12V battery. This small battery is what makes all kinds of electronic equipment in the car work.

The electric motor in an electric car is powered by a primary battery. The in-car infotainment system, AC and mobile charger all use this second smaller battery. A possible malfunction in the above ICCU is likely to cause the battery to over-stress and malfunction.

Also, this may cause the electronic equipment in the car to malfunction. To prevent this, Hyundai has recalled the cars that are believed to have the defect. Customers owning the Ioniq 5 model can visit their nearest Hyundai showroom to check it.

Hyundai is also volunteering to invite customers to check their car for ICCU fault. The company has also promised to replace the part at no extra charge if the fault is found.

The Ioniq 5 model with a 72.6kWh battery pack and a range of 631 km is priced at Rs 46.05 lakh ex-showroom in India. The car has a single electric motor attached to the rear wheel that can produce 217hp of power and 350Nm of torque.
